Business Travel

Car Travel: Car travel is a large contributor to travel emissions. Switching to lower-emission vehicles, such as electric or hybrid cars, could reduce this impact. As a result, we will explore schemes such as Salary Sacrifice Car Schemes that offer tax-efficient leasing of low-emission vehicles.

Flights: International and domestic flights are also large contributors. Where possible, we aim to replace air travel with virtual meetings or alternative transport like trains, which have lower emissions per mile. Additionally, booking direct flights and opting for economy class can reduce emissions per passenger.

Train Travel: While lower in emissions than air or car travel, train travel still contributes a large amount due to the distance travelled. We will look at using digital meeting platforms where possible to minimise even train travel. We will also explore partnerships with rail companies for discounted rates to encourage public travel.

Staff Commuting

While commuting emissions cannot be completely eliminated until electric vehicles become more widespread from 2030 onwards, we will aim to make reductions by encouraging employees to ride share, walk or cycle to work whenever possible.

Implementing financial incentives, such as Cycle to Work schemes and electric vehicle allowances, could further support our employees in making more sustainable commuting choices.

Business Hotel Stays/Events

Hotel stays and event attendance contribute to business travel emissions, presenting an opportunity to consider emissions-conscious policies, such as encouraging employees to stay at eco-certified hotels and looking into partnerships with sustainable hotel chains.

Where possible we will aim to consolidate trips by combining meetings or extending stays, reducing the need for frequent travel.  Virtual attendance at events also offers a sustainable alternative, especially for long distance travel. For internal events such as our annual Showcase, hosting locally or at sustainable venues will help limit the carbon footprint.

We will review our sustainability performance annually and report back on progress we’ve made towards our goals.
